We walked the Pirates Coast near Antalya. We had good weather with sun every day and no rain. The temperatures were pleasant for walking (not too warm). The walking is mainly on good trails through the forest or on forest roads. The forests are varied with pine, cedar, oak and sandalwood trees. We walked 15 – 20 km with 700 – 1500 m of vertical ascent each day (with a rest day on Wednesday) so some fitness is required. The 1500 m of ascent was climbing Mt Olympos – which was our walking highlight. At the summit is a café (with Starbucks !) and a telepherique to descend. We had our own private guide – which was useful for his knowledge of nature, flowers, plants and culture as well as his knowledge of the route – which was not always so obvious.
We ate well at the small cosy guest houses with a variety of tasty Turkish starters, a main course and desert. Each place was comfortable, had hot showers and good WiFi. All the transfers of our luggage went well. It was fun and we enjoyed. And because of the strict Turkish lockdown there was almost no one on the trails or in the villages.
